Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique used to reduce stress & heal trauma, while promoting overall health & wellness. Reiki is performed with light touch or by holding hands above the body to work in your biofield. It works by dissolving energetic blockages that can build in the body from emotional & physical injury. Though everyone's experience is personal, generally Reiki provides emotional balance, more energy, peace of mind & clarity. Ultimately, the intention of Reiki is to bring the body into a state of deep relaxation so the body can best heal itself. Crystals may also be placed near your body to balance your chakras & repair your aura.

Additionally, Reiki appears to engage & activate the "parasympathetic nervous system", which is our default setting when we're not in danger. In this state, our breath calms, our body relaxes, we build strength, make hormones & send blood to our organs instead of away from the skeletal muscles. Generally, the more time we spend with our PNS activated, the healthier we are. External stressors can activate the "sympathetic nervous system", triggering our fight or flight response that can stay activated when we're not in real danger. Similar to exercise, massage, meditation & yoga - Reiki works to restore balance between the PNS & the SNS.
